Why Underwood Construction Ltd?

The Underwood Construction fleet

‘Practice Makes Perfect’, in this respect UCL have vast experience in project development and management and recognise that success comes from an excellent relationship with the professional team and clients and in so doing make the often complex practical requirements appear an ‘easy’ working partnership.

UCL has a very workable mix of directly employed labour and long built relationships with subcontractors. Procurement of goods and services is enhanced by UCL’s reputation for timely payment. UCL appreciate the benefits of procuring proven tried and tested products and services to use within projects. In doing this programme times can be enhanced because of knowledge of product, wastefulness can be driven out because of the clarity of specification and design is already known. Also maintenance issues become easier because with known products fittings and components can be procured and replaced with ease.

UCL employ competent technical staff, knowledgeable ‘time served’ people and a wide variety of skilled and semi skilled trades persons, who have a proven record of working successfully to produce projects to the high standards required.

UCL is a ‘well rounded’ reliable and competent construction organisation and has all the attributes required to deliver an unrivalled service achieving completed projects to the high standard required.

Approach to Quality during the construction period

UCL has built its reputation by achieving a high standard of finish on all projects. We are not tolerant of bad workmanship, poor quality materials or a “that will do” mentality. We achieve a high standard by employing good quality staff and subcontractors who know that UCL only accept the best. The work on site is constantly monitored by our Site Managers, Senior Construction Manager all the way through to Director level.

Our pursuance of quality is also reflected in the way our sites are managed; great emphasis is placed on site and personal safety, high quality site welfare and an organised and efficiently run site.

UCL’s company mission

On time
On budget
Meeting client expectations

Approach to Aftercare

UCL recognises that the aftercare service given to a project is important as the relationship and goodwill that is built with the client during the contract period can be overshadowed and lost by poor post contract communication and aftercare.

Once we have left site then the client is given the name of the person to contact within our office who will arrange for any post contract queries and snagging to be dealt with. If the problem is part of our subcontractors work i.e. Mechanical or Electrical then they would be called upon and expected to react and attend promptly. The person in the office then checks with the client that someone has attended and the problem has been satisfactorily resolved and that they are happy.

If the problem results from our direct works then a designated maintenance/snagging operative whose priority is to respond to any calls received is asked to attend and assess the nature of the problem and respond appropriately. Emergencies will be dealt with immediately; non urgent defects will be attended to at a time agreed with the client.
