County Hall, Chichester
A small office refurbishment to be completed in 13 weeks was the project brief. Approximately 300m2 the work comprised of stripping out the suspended floors and ceilings and all finishes. A relatively straightforward refurbishment complicated only by the requirement to keep the computer room located within the site live.
Several skips of redundant network wiring were removed from below the suspended floors, followed by the construction of a gas tight fireproof perimeter wall to form a new computer room. The project was further complicated by a very complex M&E installation including gas fire suppression, back-up power supplies and automatic fire detection. All of these interlinked to provide an orderly transfer to generated power in the event of a supply failure.
This IT installation runs the entire County Hall complex together with links to all emergency services and the government. The computers remained live for the entire project duration.
